Thread on re-sizing front bumper?

Hi Peeps. quite a long time ago i remember a thread here where someone cut a small section out of the middle of a front bumper and fiberglassed the two pieces together (with support backing from the inside) and thereby shortening it . maybe in order to fit a narrow body or sumthin

I am faced with having a bumper (beautiful btw, just received new from Dave at TRE) that is apparently sized for RSR fenders, but is too wide for my IROC fenders.

anyone remember this? quite a nice job .

RSR may be wider than 930 or IROC fenders. Are your fenders fiberglass?

With some versions of the narrow-body IROC bumper, it's the width of the whole thing that's a problem. Easy to sort - mount, measure how much it hangs out, chop that much out of the center, re-glass from the back side (paying attention to interference with oil cooler and plumbing)

With a flared bumper, the bumper profile may fit the body but the flare could be too big. May require reworking flares which requires pie-cuts, sculpting.. If you hold the flare of the bumper up flush to the fender flare and the profile matches, you may be able to just chop the excess out of the center, but remember not to eat up all the room for your cooler or plumbing.

THANKS ALOT FLYNT! yes its simply too wide overall. the flare it self seems to be fine and correctly matches the bumper. i really had no idea IROC fenders are that different than RSRs.

So when you say reglass from the back. meaning just cut bumper, rejoin in some type of stable jig, and then lay in sheets of soaked fiberglass cloth across the inside? will that be strong enough with just with the FG or should i glass in a few bolts and hold it togerther with strips on aluminum layed across the seam.

tell you the truth, i am terrified of anything to do with FG ... it always looks so cheesy when a DIY guy does it. oh well must try.
