heat cycle new tires?

The Bad news: Saturday night my front right tire blew out while I was doing 70 on the freeway. I bit freaky, but she stayed on the road with a lurch which was controllable and I was able to pull over to the shoulder untill AAA arrived. It was my first experience watching a tow truck driver struggle to get her up on the flatbed without ripping the oil lines off the front.

The Good News: I picked up a set of Yoko AVS Intermediates during the TireRack blowout sale in the Fall, so this is the perfect time to mount em up.

The Question: Do these need to be heat cycled on the first trip out? If so, do I have to store then horizontally for the following 24 hrs?

I know that new tires will always be a bit slippery in the begining, and I know that race tires are supposed to be heat cycled as soon as they are put on. The archives aren't definitive on the issue. BTW, the car is a weekend drive (some of it spirited).

IMHO I don't think it is needed on street tires.

AVS intermediates aren't race tires. They're not going to be particularly sensitive to heat cycles. Your first couple of times out will be a little less sure-footed than later. The tires will be better once they're scrubbed in, and the releasing agent had cooked out.

Thanks guys, it'll be a little easy going at first, but at least I won't have to throw her up on stands after the first trip.
