URO Fog Light Lenses

Well, under customer request we “attempted” to install a URO brand 993 fog light last week. Opened the box, “wow, cool, looks almost BOSCH O. E. “ Then we tried to install it. Well Uro must have bought the old worn out molds from Bosch. Plugged in the parking light, it shorted and blew the fuse. Took the bulb holder out and the build looked like it had melted in an oven???? Then went to plug in the fog light, and the plug plain wouldn’t fit, so we swapped the connector back from the original on the Uro. While in there we noticed that the H3 bulb connector had no insulation on it. Would have hit a bump and shorted.
Last after installed, finally, the alignment was off, interesting, because I’ve never had to adjust one out of the Porsche box , they’re always spot on. So we tried to adjust the fog bulb and..... the Allen head was not properly fastened to the threaded shaft, therefore, no adjustment.
What a piece of junk. Kind of like everything we read that they make.
URO, would you please just go away, or Learn how to do it right.

You hit the nail on the head Marc. How much more effort would it take to "do it right"? Imagine how much more business URO would get if their parts were actually in-demand by customers instead of being the last resort... and even then it rarely seems worth the hassle. I would rather rebuild a used part when possible than install one that fails rapidly or simply doesn't work.

More “URO” junk

So URO should go away and Porsche should have zero competition?

If you think Porsche parts prices are insane, URO are literally the only ones providing any completion and keeping parts prices in check.

Without completion, you don’t have free markets, you have absolute monopoly, then the monopolist can do literally anything they want to you.

Porsche should heed that advice, too - stop selling shiit parts (relays that don't work, CV boots that split after two years, engine sound pads that slough their coatings off if you look at them sideways, ignition coils that are trash, dash toppers that look like a 5 year old assembled them, etc.), for top dollar, or just give up the attempt.

URO Parts is an active member here, and I've seen them listen to feedback and try to take it seriously. I will PM this thread.

No they shouldn’t go away, they should set higher standards for engineering and quality control. They could become in demand instead of last choice.

Purchased 2 sets of URO fog light replacement lenses. Fit as they should, have done some group drives with them and they appear to be as stout as OEM. So much for blanket generalizations above.

Same here.

I got some URO fog light lenses for my 87 Carrera over 4 years ago now to replace cracked and faded originals. They fitted perfectly and still look great and are going strong.

Ha, truth, Porsche should step up the quality control for many of their parts - especially when they usually cost many time the price of aftermarket suppliers. I’ve actually had good luck with the few URO parts parts that I’ve picked up...

Hi Marc, did the fog light come in a brown box with a white & blue "URO Parts" sticker on one end? If so, what is the four digit number in the bottom right corner of the label?

We often see threads where someone gripes about an alleged "URO" part failing that ends up being a part we don't even make, or some other brand. The fact that the connector didn't fit certainly raises an eyebrow. Definitely don't throw that fog light away, we may want it.

We sell about 170 of these fog lights annually and haven't had a single return or complaint, but we'll pull both sides out of stock right now and have Engineering check them out.

Continuous improvement and customer service are the cornerstones of any good business. I applaud URO for recognizing their shortcomings and making great strides to fix them.

I get why an indy shop might not want to mess with less expensive parts (because they have to stand behind them and possibly eat the labor cost to replace), but for us DIY guys, I'm always interested in gambling with my time to find a cheaper solution.

Not to hijack this thread, but that new windshield seal from URO installs wonderfully. Thanks gents for taking the time to get it right (and for a small fraction of OEM $$$).

Not true in the case of Porsche OEM parts - Porsche has a long history of selling crap parts (particularly anything electrical or rubber related), even though they charge a lot for them.

12:11PM Update: we're stopping sale of these Fog Lights until we go through them and make sure they're right. In the future Marc, feel free to send us an email or PM anytime with your feedback, thanks!
