My 1980 Targa is showing some aging on the interior (cracked dashboard, cracked and separated leather seats, discoloration and misalignment of door panels, holes in carpet, drying and cracking of rubber seals, etc..)
I am trying to enjoy my car and keep it as original as possible, will restoring the car add or distract from its current value? How should one go about it? any input is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think you’ll get all sorts of opinions on this, but I don’t worry so much about retaining value when I replace things that are worn on my cars. I’m not planning to sell in the near future, so I just try to do what pleases me.

I wouldn't be concerned provided your improvements are "tasteful" of course.

I have been in contact with this “local” shop https://patrickmotorsports.com/pages/upholstery-and-interior and although they have great reviews, I wish I could get some honest general feedback/recommendations from forum members (quality vs price as an example).

Might be helpful to list your location.
I had my '79 seats reupholstered by a local shop - they used the original pattern, very pleased with the outcome. IIRC, cost was about $1800 for leather, installed. No question in my mind that the value now is greater than had I left the original seats. Then ![]() Now ![]() Jason

^^ Jason,
Those seats look fantastic, did they use new foam?

I have been to Patrick Motor Sports and James, the owner, is a great guy and lives, eats and sleeps Porsche. They are what I refer to as a Spa for Porsches. That means they take the best care of them and their work is impeccable. I would not hesitate in the least to deal with them. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Just cruise their website to see the quality work they do from the ground up.

If the replacements are good quality and look good, don't worry about originality unless you are trying to restore it to a concours winner.
