71 door felt seal

Hi All, I'm putting a -71T coupe together. I was not fortunate to pull it apart, bought in boxes.

I'm now working on the doors. Door locks are in and the next step is the window regulator, glass and frame.

Looking at the parts, I have this felt seal, nr 13 from the PET. It has some fastening rivets on it. I don't have any holes that corresponds with these. It looks like it goes on the inside of the glass.

Can you please show me how this goes so I can understand what I'm missing.

Thanks for any input.

Just did this on mine - sorry I don't have pictures. If No. 9 is already removed you should see five mounting holes along the top edge inside of the door. It could be that the metal part of the old seal is still in there. Just pry them out and install the new one.

Thanks for your input! I'm doing a total restoration and I suspect my doors had some job done to the upper outer part.

As you can see I have no holes except for the ones for the trim (9).

If I understand it correctly the holes go on the part marked by "X"? That makes the felt go on the outside of the glass.

If someone can confirm this I will have to find out where the holes go and how to get them drilled. I guess I have to go through the inner piece to be able to get to it. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Jörgen

If you are lucky they may have used body filler to close up the holes. Feel around the backside, you may find squish out. If so open the holes with a pick tool.

Yes, looks like the holes are missing on yours. Will be tough to drill holes in that area but I'm sure there's a way. I'm terrible with body work so hopefully others will chime in.

First, if no squish out, I would sand down the paint to metal in the areas where the holes should be to find out what they did.

If you don't want to drill through the outer piece (which will be covered anyway) you could try a die grinder to get in the small space with the proper sized bit.

From what I can see they replaced that lip so no trace of the old holes. I have to carefully measure to get them right. I guess the rear end should be right where the rear part of the window frame ends.

I'm thinking like you, either go through the inner skin (which will be covered as you say) or drill a smaller hole in the inner (and outer) and get some pointy grinder in there before you (with the smaller hole on the outer as a pilot hole) make it bigger.

I don't know if it's worth the hassle, I have to find a grinder tool with a shaft long enough to be able to make this work. Ah well... Long story, if anyone have any other tricks of the trade let me know.

It's a part of the hobby solving problems. Especially if you're stupid enough to buy a project in boxes!

Thanks for your input, it helps me keeping sane...

I think that felt strip goes on the inside
The aluminum strip with the wiper goes on the outside

From searching the web and looking at the PET i've come to this:

The felt seal I'm asking about (13) goes on the OUTSIDE of the glass, under the aluminum trim (9) which also holds the "wiper" strip (11). All these on the OUTSIDE of glass.

On the INSIDE of the glass goes pinch seal (19).

The little rubber seal (12) is glued to the front end bottom of the alu trim between trim and door.

Can someone please confirm this?

Appreciate your help!
