Exhaust tips - looks only or performance as well?

Just wanting to throw a new exhaust tip onto my ratty looking stock exhaust pipe. Does slanted vs. straight, double-walled vs single, etc. matter at all performance-wise, or are these only aesthetic considerations?

Go for it.

So if my existing tailpipe measures 2.25”, when I’m shopping for a tip are the ones designated as 2.25” inlet going to be the right size?

The person that wrote this claims the sound may change a bit.

I'd like to see some science backed documentation.

Had to laugh. Our PCA region offered a new grill badge for the 60th anniversary. One member asked how much the badges weighed, and declined to get one when it was found to weigh 8 oz.

The best sounding exhaust I ever had was on a prior 87 Coupe. Took it into my local aircooled specialty indie shop once and the tech was like, "Wow! That sounds great! What kind of exhaust is that?!" I said, "An old cheap aftermarket one with a massive rust hole in the tail pipe." Saved weight too.
