You no longer have to fold your Targa top to get it in the Ftrunk.

Just fabricate a bracket and slide the reservoir over.

Might have to lengthen the brake hoses a bit and maybe buy new nozzles to the master cylinder while you are in there.

Several in this forum have told me this was impossible, only one other member that I know of has done this, but offered no photos or details.

I am not sure this will work with original ventilation system in place, it was dead weight to me and removed. However when I came up with this scheme over a decade ago the measuring tape said it would work if I recall correctly.

I still have to rig something to keep the top in place so it does not scratch up the newly painted brake booster. For now a stadium foam rubber seat cushion is a buffer.

A storage restraining system of Velcro to Styrofoam blocks in lieu of metal or wood framework requiring holes is currently favored.

I plan on converting to a polycarbonate or acrylic targa top as my vinyl covering is shot. Therefore this is the first step towards that design goal.

It closes just fine, lots of room to spare.

Can be converted back to stupid original design at any time.:cool:

NOTE: If you have fancy aftermarket shock tower bracing, you may be out of luck.

My old ‘75 Targa had the non-folding fiberglass top, and it fit just fine. There were some brackets at the front of the trunk that held it in position, even with the ventilation system in place. Perhaps someone with a ‘75 could post a picture for folks to see. I think when Porsche changed to the power brakes and moved the master cylinder and brake booster into the trunk, they had to redesign that area. It was nice to be able to store the top unfolded.

Yes, would be nice to see some earlier sets ups, mine is a 1977 with booster.

Someone mentioned that I could back-date the braking system to non brake booster, but honestly that was way more than I wanted to get into.

Nicely done, but a concern of mine would be the top shifting while driving and possibly compromising the reservoir.

Is there anything to secure the top in position?

Gravity, and geometry until I rig foam retaining blocks.

A project in progress.

It is in there well enough for now. Part of what makes it work is the heaviness of the folding top frame.

I've been debating drilling holes in it verses sculpting something from scratch.

It is embarrassing comparing the weight of my top to my friend's MAGNUM PI 1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi, his one piece is so light and stores behind the seat.

Like I said, just Phase-1 of a larger plan.

I’ll post a few photos of my 1975 S frunk as soon as I get back home. As you all know, there is a little more room for us since we don’t have a booster there, just the reservoir.

Can't tell but is that with the spare removed ?

I bet you could mount it on the bottom of the hood some how. That would be cool also.

Yes my spare is removed, not sure if it would make a difference.

My air-spring shocks already struggle to hold the front hood up, which is why I use a pair of old drumsticks on the shock towers to hold it up when working in there.

I'm thinking about a protective cover for the car battery, just in case of top shifting.

I do believe the tire adds to crash safety so preferably, the top fits with the tire in place.
