Can I Remove this Vacuum thingey?

3.0 SC 1978, and I'm removing all the air-pump stuff anyway. Is this a part of that air-injection system? The metal pipe goes down to the exhaust , and the other way goes to under the CIS airbox. There was a giant leak in this area, so that might be the leak I've been looking for. Can I just cap it off down at the exhaust? Or is it something important?

EGR=Crime against Nature.

For sure, Dr Porsche and GOD did not intend for engines to ingest oxygen poor, (used), air into our beloved engines.

EGR was a miserable, cheap, quick and dirty fix to meet emission standards - A POX ON THE MISERABLE BEAN COUNTERS, that forced it on the engineers.

Bean counters? It was on there because Porsche hadn't released a FI system that could comply with CA smog standards w/o it. Motoronic wasn't out until model year 1984.

You couldn't get a turbo for more than a couple of years because boosted CIS couldn't pass.

I am in the unfortunate process of making a 1979 SC legal in CA. I have been trying to find pictures showing how the EGR valve is mounted. That is one of the few pictures I've seen of an EGR attached to the exhaust tube but something appears missing. I expected to see a bracket sandwiched between the EGR valve and the exhaust tube but I don't see one there. Does anyone have a picture of how the EGR valve is mounted?

Couple years back I was researching the same, went a different direction. I saved many pictures of the system, here's a couple. Will post more if I find them -

78-79 also had a CA specific air box as part of the EGR system and a different #6 intake runner.
