Sudden Clutch Play
I have a 1977 911 with a manual clutch. I now have play in the clutch cable. The nuts are still tight and the wedge is still in place. The clutch pedal is good.
Did the clutch tube break at the firewall? |

Maybe, could be broken clutch fork or sheared pin in pedal cluster, or any other number of things in the long chain of things that must work in a 911 for good clutch action.

I’m going to look at the Bowden fitting on the transmission next.

If you are able, have a helper exercise the clutch while you watch the various parts. Looks for parts that are moving when they shouldn't.

Could it be the shifter fork bent?

It may be the cable itself breaking. When a stranded cable begins to break it does so a strand at a time and begins to unwind and “stretch.”

It was the clutch fork arm, this is the second one in five years.
