1975 Shop Manual

I have a 75 targa S that has had a 76 3.0 liter engine put in it. Does anyone know the best shop manual for indepth engine tear downs and will tell me every part on the car and engine?

No such thing, really.

Buy our host's how to rebuild and modify Porsche 911 engines book - should do the trick for the engine.

The factory 6 volume shop manuals are the best for the body and suspension, but may be expensive? And hard to find? If Clymer is still in business, their manual for 1977 and earlier cars is decent. Our Host's 101 Projects for your 911 will be very helpful.

The parts manuals for the 2.7 and for the 3.0, which you can download from Porsche, will be very helpful.

If you can find one, the factory little white spec book (76/77 Models 911, Carrera 3.0 Turbo Technical Specifications) is super handy when torquing or adjusting.

And whist we are at it, there is a Haynes manual as well.

I start with the Bentley manual. Of course there are a few errors. I use the Haynes to cross check confusion issues.

Wayne's How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines is very good at explaining; not just stating part A attaches to part B.

The factory manuals are very expensive and look good sitting on my shelf. So much is missing I feel you have to have taken the factory classes as well.

The on-line version of the PET provides invaluable exploded images of parts as well as providing part numbers.

There is no Bentley manual until the 1978 SC’s. As noted above the Factory Manuals, Clymer and Haynes is all we got.

It is helpful but only about the motor.

Still, if you can get a set, they are very helpful. The PET is great.

PDF copies of the factory manual are actually hosted here: http://early911nzdownloads.yolasite.com/workshop-manuals.php

Not as good as paper, but better than nothing. Keep in mind that the main manuals are Volumes 1 and 2 that are good through 1971. Then the next four volumes are supplements for the later cars. You need all six.

I suggest getting the SC Bentley and finding out the alterations - e.g. the CIS system evolved over the years but is substantially the same for 1976, 77, 78.
