Question Targa top puffs up at speed.

My Targa top billows out at speed. Is there any way to tighten the skin of an old top or any other way to prevent this?

Thanks

Tim

You bet. Take a look at the front beading of the top. Is this pointed straight ahead or slightly up? If so, on a hot day, "break" the top arms, remove the front clips and pins, peel back the headliner, and undo the material from the plates. On both sides, remove the gutters and the side seals. Again, peel pack the material. Now, using binder clips, set everything up a bit tigher, being sure to NOT point the front beading TOO far down, just about 45degrees should do. Button everything up.

Thom has a great website on doing this. However, you are one step away from a reskin now, so ask yourself, should you put in a new skin and double-headliner?

A Search on "dan@cars.inc" or "reskin" should give you additional information.

Thanks for the info.

I think I'll try to tighten it up.

Hi,

I just noticed this thread. I will add my voice to contacting Dan at Cars. inc. He is reported to be extremely knownlegeable about the care and feeding of Targa tops. When I had a noise problem, as few e-mails of his advise and replacing a missing screw fixed me right up.

I just dropped off my top to Dan yesterday, i"ll let you know bout how it comes out. My first impression is that he'll do a fine job. I picked his brain on a few issues and he appears to know his stuff far better then a newbie like me. Not to mention the sweet 72 tub with the 993 motor he had in his garage. He had several other tops in for restoration and he had all the top quality materials on hand. I would guess he's done hundreds of these jobs, there is no substitute for experience.
