Fuel distributor lines

Hi all, my 79 SC 3.0 CIS needs to have all fuel lines replaced in the car for safety reasons and while looking at the head of the FD mine has what appears to be plastic lines from the top down to the injectors. I have seen later model SC's with metal lines running in place of the plastic ones. The plastic lines look iffy and are hard.. Certainly I'd prefer metal instead of 41 year old plastic lines. Can I retrofit metal for the plastic? Thanks for any advice on this, Kip

The plastic lines actually last quite a long time compared to rubber although there is some rubber insulation that covers the plastic lines in areas that can break down with age.

You can retrofit with metal lines.

The metal lines are used from 81-83 and can be retrofitted. the main difference other than being metal is the connection at the fuel distr. The plastic lines use a banjo bolt and the metal lines have a threaded fitting similar to the injector end. You will have to find the correct fittings that screw in to the fuel distr. for the steel lines. Tony should be able to hook you up with what you need.

Kurt and Richard, thank you both for your replies to my question! I'll get with Tony and see what I need to order for this project. I think I'll feel much safer with the metal lines. Kip

I have a set of 80-83 CIS Hardlines AND the special FD Fittings if you really want to go that way.

However, I also make up new replacement Polyamide Injector lines like this.....

...with Silicone Rubber Covers that will not fail. These are much less costly than going to the Metal Hardlines that I believe are now NLA from Porsche.

Len makes some tip-top gear for whatever it’s worth.

I have my supply lines (up to the FA) made by him, and I am going to replace others around the area while we are in there this winter.

Len: ... (sorry for the hijack OP) do you make the lines from the FD down to the injectors in braided SS covered?

FWIW, my 1973.5 is still sporting most of the original polyamid lines with no issues. The only one I replaced was the one I accidentally pinched and created a leak.

3 Pedals-What exactly is your "safety" issue?

It's all in your head. The plastic ones are just as robust as the metal ones and are much easier when working around the engine.

Do yourself a favor and leave them alone.

Made up these a long while back.....

when I was still working at Auto Sport. Since my retirement and move to NH I have no idea where the Braided Line inventory is or if I have the fittings.

Best to email me.

Those look just sooo sweet!!! I replaced the old plastic OEM lines on my 80 SC with used metal lines - they work - but look like they have had a hard/bent life... // Len - what do you want for your Polyamide Injector lines ?

My 83 SC is all apart, working on the CIS. Has anyone had the steel lines re-plated with the yellow zinc? Also I need a source for servicing the bonded steel-rubber tubing. Lower photo is of the rubber/metal lines in question. Appreciate your ideas for finishing them off. Thanks
