Question Fuel pump options for carbed hotrod/race engines

Hi All,

I wasn't sure if this question would fit the engine or race forums vs this one

I'm looking for options for low-pressure, high-volume fuel pumps for a carbed track car setup. Specifically a thirsty hotrod 2.7 with Weber 46s, fuel cell and all AN-6 braided and solid metal lines in between. For years I've been using a Holley Red pump plumbed with 3/8"-AN6 adapters, but I find those pumps extremely loud and not terribly reliable in my application which involves a lot of WOT, heat and vibrations.

What is everyone running that is relatively bulletproof?

Thanks and Cheers,

I always use Carter fuel pumps for my carbed race engine.

just get some -6 fittings and your all set.

I ran Holly reds in my 2.7 modified track motor with '46s. If they were noisy I wouldn't have noticed, though when I first ran Facets I didn't like their noise. I ran two (fuel cell had a pickup in each rear cell corner). At some point one failed. I disassembled it, figured out how to fix it, and put it on the shelf because it got replaced. AN-6 for sure big enough.

But Holley was convenient - local FLAPS carried. Doubtless other pumps work fine, and maybe even better. My Holley's now just fill a surge tank which the high pressure Bosch pump draws from for the EFI.

Thanks a bunch! I've looked into Osram, Carter and Aeromotive and so far the Holley Red actually still seems like a winner -- as you said, they are relatively cheap (~$135) and readily available. The Aeromotive 11209 looks nice but is 2X the price and appears to draw significantly more current (rated 5A vs 2A). I think I'll just continue to keep a spare Holley on-hand in my track box and go to a more frequent rebuild/replace interval.
