GHL muffler questions
Edit: Not Fabspeed - GHL!!!
I'm interested in the GHL SS muffler (not pre muff). I have a Bursch cat-pipe and stock muffler. Was considering replacing the stock muffler with the GHL muffler, connecting to my Bursch cat. (Looking for something with more noise and better looks than my tardy stock item.) Anyone with this setup or any concerns over matching up the Bursch cat and the GHL muffler that you know of? Dont want a Fabspeed disaster! Thanks for any advice. Cheers Mark

Mark I have seen this and I am probably going to get flames BUT from my point of view this things are junk then again you know we use almost everything custom made.

Mark,
Please disregard the "junk" comment from our respected friend. GHL makes good product and they back up their warranty. As detailed here in the past, they *have* had some quality control problems, but all issues (that I know of) were addressed in a proper fashion. Pelican Parts sells GHL; one of the few muffler brands they carry. And we know Wayne does not carry "junk". Before I changed my car over to a 2/1muffler & SSI setup, I had a GHL muffler (and cat pipe). It was made well, fit well, sounded great (*no* resonance as they claim). I sold it to a member on this board, and I know he is also satisfied.

Thanks for both your opinions guys. Both respected highly.
Juan - just wish I had the dollars to go custom but for now all I can be is a poser, with dark thoughts ![]() Doug my thoughts too were that if Wayne is willing to stand behind what he sells that'll do for me. O N E day..... I'll chase performance to the extreme but for now with my little old cab I just want to have some affordable fun.

Why not modify a stock muffler into a "cow horn" style with an extra outlet on the RH side? It won't buzz (resonate) like so many do, and will give more Grrr than the stock muffler. If you want even more noise and a few hp, then use a sport muffler.
I have YET to see valid proof that any aftermarket muffler imroves on the above 3 options. If you have a statistically valid set of engine (not wheel) dyno runs, please post them. Or if you have expert opinons (such as Bruce Anderson, Jerry Woods, Dick Elverud, Jeff Gamroth, Steve Wiener, or the Mahle folks) post that. No one I've talked to or otherwise contacted (who is an objective expert) has said anything is better than the 3 options above. I do have a collection of opinions based on impressions by various owners, but I didn't see any clear winner in the aftermarket from that. |

Randy,
Thanks for the reply but in HK there's not much skill in this sort of thing (making custom modifications) so I'm better off going with the impressions of people here who I trust. Plus I'm not after a dramatic improvement in HP at this stage. I'm just after a fresh look and a louder aural experience ![]() ![]() Cheers Mark

Watch out for the buzz.... It's is very simple BTW -- you just cut a hole on the RH side of the muffler & weld on a short pipe with the same bend as the other side. Then cut a notch in the bottom of the bumper. Bingo, you're done. I'm sure there are guys who can weld in Hong Kong. If not, a tai Chi Master might be able to vaporize a hole for you....

Today at Hershey, I had a chance to compare a Bursch test pipe with a Fabspeed pre-muffler. They look identical from the inside. Both are straight through pipes. I guess I was expecting the Fabspeed to have baffles or something. The big difference is the Fabspeed has an outer shell to keep the resonance down. Other than sound, I can't see how there would be any difference in perfomance between the two.
