Problem with updated axle shafts on SC

I am installing new halfshafts P/n 923 32 33 2 and because of the updated style of joint I have to use the backing plates but the holes on backing plate do not line up with the holes on the joint or half shafts. Also Pelican says to use two plates for each joint shouldnt you use three for each joint

The P/N on the plate is 911 332 191 00

i don't recall any update on SC joints. by backing plate, you mean the steel tab between each pair of bolts? the SC just uses a schnorr washer under each bolt head, and the boot flange is thick steel. the ones that use the plates have a thin steel flange. they also use the schnorr washers. i ran into this with replacement axles a while back, and found the bolts were too long also, and bound the outer joint. i wasn't too happy with the parts. i think i'll just get new CV/boot kits and rebuild the axles until there are some good complete axles available. at least the carrera ones are good.

I do mean the steel tab between the two bolts. My parts and tech guide from Porsche only calls for two of these tabs for each joint which will leave two holes without the tabs. I have been told that complete axles only come with the sheet metal boot cover and these tabs displace the load more evenly across the surface. There were no washers when I diassembled the old axles.

the joints with the two plates only used four 10mm bolts on early 911s, and four 8mm bolts on 914s. in place of where the other two bolts would go, were two big rollpins. so it looks like you have to find some 914 plates.

I think PP sent me the wrong plates. They came in Friday evening for weekend project so now I have to wait till monday. No sunday drive for me.

Maybe I will write a porsche book "102 ways to get in trouble" the first one being buying the book.
