Just a point of data. I could order off brand glass via safelite, but they would not sell me the glass without also installing it. I think it was around half the price of Porsche glass from the dealer. We opted for dealer glass as I have 0 confidence in a safelite tech installing glass on one of these cars, especially my project car which had non original trim and had been painted with a new headliner and dash.

Exactly. Einmalig in CA had NOS Sekurit, and I believe some of the other vendors carry it, but shipping was over $400 and put me at or over the price of my local Porsche dealer.

I picked one up recently from Sierra Madre for my 77. They are near Pasadena from what I recall.

In 2022 the glass was 239 and shipping was 138. It came in a triple walled cardboard box filled with soft foam and more padding that I cared to cut through.

Looking for genuine or generic?
I bought a generic from Mikes Auto Glass in Fort Myers. $210 hand delivered to my door in Venice. Looks good and installed very easily. Used the new Uro seal on it as well. |

Call your local auto glass shops and get a quote. Safelite is a waste of time (long story) and more expensive. I sourced a 80sc windshield for 230 bucks. Just installed with the new URO seal and all went perfectly. No issues

There's also this recent thread Heated Windscreen.
I've been musing replacing my sand-blasted 250,000+ mile original with a heated screen for a long time now.. Factory ones were even still available, last I looked.

I suspect that your experience with Safelite varies by the particular store.
I lived in northern Virginia 5 years ago. The Safelite store in Herndon had a guy who specialized in 911 windshields. He had done a hundred of them and had the right setup and knew exactly what to do to install it in my garage. I assisted. The installation was fast and fit exactly and he commented that the URO seal worked better than the OE ones he had used. The glass and Installation was about $600.
