Need help with Letter of Compliance
To make a long story short i've got a date booked for shipping my newly acquired '91 964 from Ontario to Vermont. Porsche NA says they cannot supply a letter of compliance because their system is not working right now. If i cant get the letter by Thursday the car wont ship for another few weeks.
Does anyone know where else I might obtain a Letter of Compliance? I have heard that dealers can also produce the letter, can any one suggest a dealer that might do this for me? The car was originally sold in New Jersey. Thanks for any insight. |

Is this for an importation thing from Canada that you need the letter? Isn't the fact that it was originally a US car sufficient? Do you have the original bill of sale or window sticker?

Call the US customs office of the intended border crossing and ask for a supervisor. If you can get records of the car originating from the US to CA there should be no problem. Also mention the car is over 25 years old and should be exempt.

Re Compliance...The VIN Compliance decal on your B pillar verifies that it 'complies ' with safety and immissions standards for the US.
Last suggestion: Phone a import broker. Most Canadian - US crossings have broker offices and they will tell you exactly what the US customs will require for import - For about a $100. they will do the paper work for you. Being it is a returning vehicle it will fly through if you can verify this. Cheers |

Thanks for the helpful replies. Being a '91 this one is not 25 yet. I'm using a broker and this is their requirement. I'm hoping that I can find a dealer somewhere that will state on their letterhead that the car was originally sold in the US. Anyone have a connection at a dealer that can help me?

The VIN will indicate whether it's a US market car or not.
