Engine conked out

Hey Guys, so I was warming the 83SC in the garage this morning. After about 10 minutes the engine just died. I tried to restart it and it just cranked over real fast, that was it. Got any ideas what to look at first? Thanks.

check your fuse number 6 from the windshield--you should have fuse box cover with fuse index on it--then report

Ivan

i assume you know where fuses are?

hook682 01-10-2021 09:04 AM

Ivan, that was it, the fuse fell apart when I touched it. Do you know the value of that and what it is for?

Flat6pac 01-10-2021 09:33 AM

It’s fuel pump fuse
The value might be inside the cover, it is in the manuals.

fuse for fuel pump is usually blue 30A....also check the others .If they are plastic look o-line cor ceramic fuses ,thay last longer and can take the heat...

2nd.

Also, beware cheap fuses: they’ll melt and leave you stranded.

hook682 01-10-2021 02:34 PM

I ordered thru pelican, I guess they are plastic

Fuel pump on its way out ?

hook682 01-10-2021 03:37 PM

What’s the normal current flow? I can put a clamp on on it,

proporsche 01-12-2021 10:25 AM

I believe the German Flosser brand torpedo fuses are known to be high quality. They have the ceramic body. Inexpensive and readily available on Ebay, just buy from a reputable seller.

You can try Memotronics. They have ceramics except for 8amp (white) which are impossible to find in my experience.

Time to upgrade to modern blade fuses. Host has the kit.

I did it to my car last summer. Took an afternoon. Recommended

On my to-do list for my SC. Just did my 914 race car as a break-in. . .

LIRS6 01-19-2021 09:37 AM

I just received plastic 16 amp + 8 amp fuses, whereas product description was ceramic (not our host).

Send 'em back, or just live with them?

Jason

I'd say plastic composite shouldn't impact performance.
