injectors

Hi all

I've got some problems with my injectors, (euro carrera 87)

I'm sure somebody here knows if there is something available to replace (other than porsche parts)

best regards from France

Philippe

You might want to do a search on injectors.

As far as I know, I have not heard of anyone using different injectors other than myself. What I have been using are a set of GM Multec injectors from a Chevy 3100 engine. I am very happy with them and are very cost effective as well.

If you do not mind making some mixture adjustments to adapt these injectors to your engine, then they might be what you are looking for.

What's wrong with Porsche parts? They may be expensive compare to no name, but at least they will work in your car.

I hate it when people start using shoe maker method to keep their cars running whether it a Porsche or a Yugo.

That's fine if you want to spend the money. But a number of people on this board enjoy making modifications to their 911 using non Porsche parts. Oh, and you might want to go thru that 911 of yours and start counting up all the parts that were not made by Porsche. I think I know what you meant to say, but your plea for purity was a bit harsh.

I have heard of people using 944 injectors in 3.2L cars. It may have been 944T injectors.

Philippe:
This issue has come up before. Do a search, and you should be able to pull up some of the discussions in the middle of 2001.
Several people have said they had solved fuel injector problems by have them professionally cleaned at a cost of about $35 per injector. I found a place that sold new ones for about $60 each and just replaced them all. New injectors also include new O ring seals. My recollection is that they are a standard variety of Bosch injector, and not at all unique to Porsche. I think I still have the boxes and can get the number off a box if it helps. I am sure there are places in the EU that will sell Bosch parts at a mail order discount.
The injectors are fairly easy to replace, though disconnecting and reconnecting the fuel rails at the back of the engine compartment is a bit difficult.

Try getting GM injectors in France or should us Yanks call it "Freedom"

I don't think Philippe is trying to modify his Porsche to improve it. I think that he is just trying to get it to run as cheap as he can.

I spent money on my Lotuses when I was into racing, replace the stock suspension pieces with heim jointed rod ends, modify a dual weber head for an elan so that I could use it on the 52, install a header system etc, etc.

I know of other car people in the Lotus and Porsche clubs that like to own an exotic car but don't want to pay for the maintenance. They will just ruin a car by cobbleing something together so that they can continue to drive their car.

As for your remarks that I am not allow to have a judgement like this, just remember I'm an American and in America we can say what on our mind.

Philippe:
The injectors you want are Bosch 0-280-150-158-850. Thats what I put in my 88 Carrera. Are you saying you want something cheaper than Bosch? I doubt that you would find anything cheaper in the EU parts market, even if another brand would work. What exactly are the "informations" you are seeking?
Honi soit qui mal y pense.

He wants to know if a fuel injector from a Renault 17 (Which is also Bosch) will work on a euro carrera 87, or what modification do he have to do to a fuel injector from a Citreon 4CV to get it to fit a euro carrera 87.

He is not looking for the Bosch Part Number for the injector designed and specified for a euro carrera 87.

Phillipe - you should try shopping around using the Bosch part number rather than going to the Porsche dealership. The car's computer is set up to use those injectors, so using different ones could cause problems.

Your existing injectors can also be tested, and as someone mentioned, they can be cleaned.

BE CAREFUL: I had a single injector fail in my (former) 88 Carrera - the cat filled up with fuel, the computer leaned out the mixture and Kaboom! engine fire with a $15000 repair bill.

Happened at Bondi Beach too - not cool...

Patriotic b/s aside... I think anyone anywhere has the right to have any judgment they want. (Whether or not the government or popular majority there agrees is another issue.)

I understand that you want to save money. Like others have said, look up the bosch part number and try to source the part that way. Don't mention to anyone that it is for a Porsche. See if the price you find that way is okay with you. I bet it will be less than at Porsche dealership.

Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you besides be careful and if you sell the car, warn potential buyers of how you maintained it. I have a non stock injection on my 3.6 tt that is going into my car. However, it is engineered to work with a different engine management system. I don't see why you would "adapt" injectors from other cars if there is a perfectly good bosch part. It seems the headache from having to worry about mixture would be too great unless the difference in cost was tremendous.

Oh, thank Gud we have the same right here in Europe to say what we like, but we are more sophisticated not to use the style you seem to use there.

I hope you will find the answer Philippe. That was very interesting question. Many times you can find identically the same part sold as a Porsche part and as some other part. The only difference is the price. This is why I use Mercedes pressureplate....

And more examples: Mercedes brake pads fit just fine, at least to 911 7$ set of pads for rear brakes

Same goes for other parts. I buy whatever is identical, regardless of what car they are meant to.

ehhhm i use a lot of vw relais in my car Philippe, because they are cheaper and strange enough the parts are identical only the numbers are diffrent (bosch). I woulden,t mess with those injectors though ! these are parts wich are designed and build for Porsche i think. Look at what happend to Ryan because only one failed . I know the audi ones are allmost identical but i wouldent use them anyway because of the risks.
