Headlamp assembly falls out!

Dear Pelican community

I have recently acquired a modified 1984 Carrera.
It seems the 'Lip' or tab on the top of the headlamp bowl, mounted into my GRP wings is not high enough to trap the H4 headlamp assemblies and so 'pops' out while driving.
It seems to attach okay, but when I tighten the bottom screw, this has an upward push on the assembly. Which in turn, lifts the light assembly off the 'tab'

I am not using a 'trim ring' - might this help or compound the issue?

My options/thoughts so far:

I have seen a few race or rally Porsches have a retaining tab screwed on top of the wing, pointing forward to avoid this happening, or even tape.

Possibly weld an extension onto the existing tab to make it higher?

Any suggestions appreciated
regards, Ben

Hi Ben

This thread has lots of information and links to others. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/697738-frustration-post-h4-install.html

I read it before installing mine although I got lucky and didn't have too many problems. I re-used the old seals as they were in good shape. I think new seals would make the job harder. I did use cable ties behind the headlight as security.

As an alternative to the screwed in metal retaining tab, consider instead a clear bra / wrap retaining strip. To me, that would be an almost perfect solution, save for what will likely accumulate under the strip at the gap between the trim ring and the leading edge of the fender. OTOH, perhaps that space is small enough that it won't accumulate any dirt / dust or, even if it does, it won't me noticeable. Anywho, less invasive and / or noticeable than a metal tab and screws.

add a safety strap when you 'fix' the tab mount

use nylon cord or strap as a fail safe
