Rusty Gas Tank
The original tank from my 73T is full of rust and I haven't found a satifactory solution yet, so I'm looking for help.
I have seen the gas tank coating stuff and used it on motorcycle tanks, but I wasn't too impressed. Also, I think there is way too much rust going on in there for the 'neutalizer' to really work. A local radiator shop says that they have a special process to coat the tank inside and out (powder coat of some type) but they couldn't tell me how they were going to remove the rust. I have seen the new tanks in catalogs but they don't fit CIS cars, and I would love to fit a fuel cell but diapers and food are first on the list. My brother mentioned fitting a generic cell for much less, anyone tried this? -Jeremy

POR 15
DO A SEARCH ON POR 15. It is really great stuff. My tank had almost rusted through, and this stuff worked like a charm.

Jeremy,
A new replacement fuel tank should work just fine. They all should have supply and return fuel fittings appropriate for CIS. I’ll bet the current OE Factory replacement tanks are much more resistant to rust than the original tanks. I agree, some of the “solutions” for rusted fuel tanks are temporary at best and may be another disaster just waiting to happen. Best, Grady
