Kim... here's aluminum oxide on steel and glass beads on aluminum.

Oxide 100 grit. Supposedly this "cuts" metal. Is what Cerakote recommends as prep for some of their coatings. Idea being coating gets better adhesion when metal is oxide blasted. They do NOT recommend glass beading as prep for their coatings.

Glass bead medium grit.

Kim, Greasy Fingers did a youtube on refinishing tail light assemblies. Including what you are talking about. The video is a pleasure to watch.

Bill :

I literally had just posted my Pelican note - then went on a You tube > and voilla!! > there is Greasy Fingers doing a taillight restore!! I watched it all

However - he attacked the crud on the outside - old school - wire brush and cleaner. I didn't see him use a media blaster.

Do you know what he used for the back-end of the assembly the EDPM rubber gasket "U" shaped that he found on Amazon??

I am definitely subscribing to Greasy Fingers!! >> Pelican should hook-up with him!!

Harpo:

ALU oxide >> excellent - got a 10# bag off of Amazon..

Frank: excellent - thanks for the tip on the rubber backing... I've been all over Amazon looking at EDMP channel edging.. and was going to break out my digital calipers to measure the flange edges ... but now have the dimensions.. // nice site > Audette collection... some good stuff..

Thanks All!!
