How Do You Clean Up This Mess?

If you ever experience the shifter shaft seal letting go on the 915 transmission like mine did expect a mess!

I was unaware that the seal wore on the front of the transmission (toward the front windshield) and about half a liter of fresh swepco ran into the tunnel and dripped out the drain hole leaving the floorboard with a nice two foot circle of seepage.

The big question is how to clean the tunnel where the shift rod, throttle rod, heater cable, fuel lines, etc, live? Do you stuff rags in it, use steam or a solvent to clean it out? That goes for the under the car as well.

I see why Porsche placed a drain hole in the center of the tunnel for such releases, especially a damaged fuel line. The swepco really started running out when I jacked the car up from the rear to check to see where the leak was coming from.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Bob

Garage
I experienced the same thing and some oil went under the rubber floor coating which did assist in the removal of it. I wiped up all I could with paper towel and then repeated blasts of brake cleaner & paper towel got most of it. Hope this helps. Not alot of room to work in there.

Put front of car up in air throw some cat litter or other clay that seeps up oil, leave over night then vacuum and repeat.
Then when you have most of it up clean it like a rifle barrel.
