996 Turbo accidentally started in 3rd gear, did I damage anything?
I was not paying attention and accidentally pulled into traffic from a stop in 3rd instead of 1st. It obviously lugged for a moment and I heard a couple of bangs as I approached 5 miles per hour, I quickly put in neutral and simultaneously stopped. I then shifted to first and went though each gear thoroughly (paying close attention to third) and everything was smooth as silk. I have never done this before and I’m concerned that perhaps I damaged something. What was the banging noise and is it possible that if this was a one time occurrence and quickly corrected that nothing was permanently damaged? I would greatly appreciate reply from someone who is mechanically inclined.

Don't think you could've possibly damaged anything doing this. Bangs were probably a pothole or something silly.

Wouldn't think you hurt anything.

It's probably broken ... trade it for my '15 Mazda CX-5?
I suspect it's fine. Okay, I'll throw in my wife's Hyundai as well ... Jason
