Wevo motor mount & rennline cross brace install

Decided to replace my motor and transmission mounts. This is a review / write up for the wevo motor mounts and the rennline cross brace / bar / member. 1977 911.

Went with wevo blacks. I put penetrating oil on the original motor mounts but in hindsight should have let it soak for multiple days rather than hours because when I went to loosen the passenger mount I broke the weld on the OEM cross member/brace. Not sure what the official name is..

I decided to purchase the rennline cross member. I went with the black one. Glad I did because it’s a very sturdy product and the OEM brace did flex quite a bit.

Some tips:
- You do not need to drop the exhaust to remove the OEM cross brace from below. Lower the motor 3-4 inches and it will come out the top. I’ve seen this disputed before so want to put that to rest. Yes you will need to yank and get creative but it can be done, easily, in five minutes.

- I put cinder blocks with wood on top, under my heat exchangers, to prevent the motor from dropping too far as I fiddled with the jack I placed under the motor (also with a wood block on top to protect the motor)to get everything lined up.

- start the big motor mount bolts by dropping the into place and resting in the new mount holes before you jack up the motor. This will help guide those big bolts into position.

- as others have said leave all the bolts loose as you get all the bolts threaded.

- stole this from another Pelican: wrap your index finger in duct tape, with the sticky part facing outward to hold the small nuts when installing the M8 bolts on new motor mount. Very easy to get the nut threaded on the bolt this way, in an area with very little clearance.

That’s it, pretty simple job provided you don’t break the brace like I did. Although, I’m glad I did because the goal of the whole project is to stiffen things up and the rennline piece seems to assist in this greatly.

Butt dyno: with just the wevo black motor mounts and rennline brace - it’s not terribly noticeable. No extra rattling or harshness. My brain wants me to think that everything feels more precise but it’s not dramatic enough, very subtle. Complimentary mods at time of testing include jwest short shifter (2 in extended) and wevo PSJ.

Next up is transmission mounts, axles/cv joints, and swepco 201.

Lmk if you have any questions.
