Rear widebody conversion with 930 style brake vents...how did you guys do it?

Im interested in converting my 87 911 to a widebody with the 930 rear brake vents with the 3 slats. I've been searching for hours on this conversion but can't find any threads on it. How do I go about this conversion? I'm looking for the fender flares but I can't find any with the brake vents cut out already. Do you guys just buy the wide flares and cut the brake vents out when the fender is already installed on the car? I'm looking to do this with steel and not fiberglass. Any help on how to do this and where to find these flares would be great.

Yeah I've only known the method of installing the fenders then cutting a hole in them and then you mount in the inserts. I think I've got a set in my garage somewhere. PM if you want to see pics of them, you wanna hear more about them, or want them etc. it's pretty self explanatory for install when you see them

You are in a minority . Most 930 owners with cars that have the slats wish they could get rid of them for cosmetic reasons. I have been trying to think of an idea of how to make them look more palatable... may just get rid of the strakes and replace them with small grills...

Good luck!

The for sale section has metal ones with holes for cheep. Look up anziano quarter panels. Or just anziano.

i removed the slats in my 930 as well. i never liked the look but they were there when i bought the car which had been converted to a slopenose! replaced the front fenders as well. i have a set of metal ones and a set of fiberglass ones as well ...somewhere in my stuff! maybe one of these days i will make up some screens to place in the existing cutouts.

Did you weld over them? How did you remove them? I was thinking of just removing the slats and leaving the ventilation hole...might look ok...

i lost all my pictures a few months back. ill try one that i recovered...not sure you can see very much detail. i removed the slats and left the opening...which on a black car is not so noticeable.

2nervisx, see the ad below for some photos of an aftermarket vent assembly. These are aftermarket, as I recognize the construction of the slats being the same as my old 930. Some people hand build the vents but part of the battle is knowing the dimensions and shape so they look factory.

FS: New steel side vents 930/ Slantnose

Thanks for the link and those pictures do help. I think i've found a set of turbo widebody fenders with the brake vents already installed so I think I may be set!

Hi to all.

I have a Porsche 930 1983 manufactured for ROW or Europe. I am doing a retro mod with the car, already make some changes and upgrades with the engine but trying to let the body as original as possible. I want to find the Production Specifications document because my car didn't have the sticker and I found that the Porsche Cars of North America only provide that document to cars manufactured for US or Canada. Recently the car is in the body shop and they find that the car have the rear fenders side brake vents holes covered with a steel plates and bondo (no vent boxes or fins installed). I want to corroborate if this was a special order to Porsche or if the holes were did it by a previous owner and then covered. Also if anyone knows where to find the vent boxes with the fins, in the case that my car came with them from the manufacturer.

Any information or guide will be appreciated.

Agreed, but is that a bad thing? '80s are hot and 930 rear fender vents have lotsa Radwood Royalty cred.

Is there a part number for the slats?

Frank
