Proper Position for Right-Hand Mirror

Several years ago a forum member sold me his right-hand mirror. I purchased it purely for safety. I took it to my body shop and I believe we used the built in hole for mounting. Went in nicely and the repaint of the area was perfect. BUT, I could not adjust the mirror so I could see out of it!!! I think it is too far forward as the mounting holes were probably there for someone driving from the right seat, Brits and Aussies, for instance.

I ran across a diagram later that intended to show the right-hand mirror in a position several inches further back, compared with mounting using the factory holes. BUT, there were no measurements, just a line!

Does anyone have some help with the measurements and mounting requirements such as backplates, etc.?

Thanks,

Tom

I posed a rh mirror question on a 912 forum and was told that the rh forward mirror holes are for a rh drive car, which makes sense.

You are correct. That's what I was trying to explain!! Did you find any success with your 912 in terms of placement? In other words, if you installed a mirror on the right, how far back from the front of the door is it centered?

Right now I am trying to switch the glass from a left to a rh frame. First try ended in frustration. If I get past that, I will probably use the existing holes on the right side.

jpnovak's post laid out my solution pretty well and while exact dimensions are not included, one can "eyeball" it in. My body shop is all cued in.

Thanks,

Tom

The measurements are all there. They reference the trim mounting hole.

Of course, if you are talking about a later flag mirror the actual holes will be different than the early flag or Durant mirrors. Model year would help...
