A few Rgruppe Monterey photos
I know that this site will be flooded w/ Monterey photos soon, so are here are just a few teasers:
This one is from a run down Highway 1 towards Big Sur, truly God's country: Here is one from the drive back, taken from passenger seat of BB2. My car is in pieces still, (I know, I know.....), so had to tag along w/ Jack. BB2 is incredible, Jack is a speed demon, ![]() And here has got to be one of the prettiest gas stations on earth, on Highway 1:

I love the blue car in front of BB.
It was cool to meet you Denis, even if it was for 20 seconds. |

Denis,
Great pics! Did any of you stop in Morro Bay for coffee & pics? Probably my favorite small town on the West coast! California 1 is a great drive when you aren't in a hurry!!!

That is the place to be with a P-car, Highway 1 between Monterey and Big Sur. Know that road well.
Excuse me for being ignorant, but what exactly is R-Gruppe? Is it strictly related to Carrera RS, early cars, or what? Thanks for informing me.

The cars at the gathering were amazing, about a dozen real '73 RSes, including Stephen Childs' 30k kilometer car that was featured in the May '02 Excellence Magazine, (comparison w/ new GT-2). This has to be the best unrestored RS in the world, it is almost brand new! And he drives it, (occasionally)!
] And David Mohlman's '73 RSR lightweight, for those with a, shall we say, bigger 911 hotrod budget:

Matt, nice to meet you also! Met a lot of nice people on this trip. Here is a shot of the blue car, I call it the short-hood that darn near stole the show. It is a '76 turbo body hotrod, super light w/ a 3.8 RS varioram, owned by Barrett, (sorry forgot last name, somebody chime in?), people were CARRAZY about that car:
And even with all of the most drool-worthy street/track 911s on earth present, the big dogs were real interested in BB2 and Tyson Schmidt and TRE's magic. Here is Jack giving Stephen Childs the low-down: And Wayne, I'll email you my photos later this evening. ![]()

And Lagrassa, I am not actually a member of Rgruppe, (don't own an early car right now), so can't speak for them, but it is a club for hotrod early 911s, I think that it was formed originally as partly a response to a certain snob element in the PCA against modified 911s, but it has grown to where their gatherings are a little bit better than a PCA social.
![]() Also, contrary to what some think, there is no negative feelings towards later 911s or their owners, maybe some good-natured ribbing, and some Rgruppers have newer metal as well: And Kurt Zimmerman, owner of the quintesential Rgruppe hotrod, the slide-valve, twin-plug, 3.5 MFI, 1800lb. rocket, also owns this slightly quieter daily driver:

Man, all of the cars are great, but of this bunch the ones that really catch and hold my attention are the RSR and the crazy red R (I don't have to mention BB2 = given)
The blue RSR/IROC look car is pretty hot, anyone have another view?

Mike, Next year stop by, this was my second year crashing the party,
![]() I guess it's true, they really do have a "no dickheads" policy. ![]() Here are the rest of my pics, this is one of my favorite Rgruppe cars, an original '67 911S w/ really interesting history and cool owner who drives it: And this is from parade lap of Laguna Seca w/ Jack in BB2, what a beautiful track: Come to think of it, that might be the coolest photo I have ever (accidentally) taken. The raindrops make the trees look like a Monet painting. ![]()
