Maxilite 17 Question
Hi All:
I apologize for lack of a formal introduction. I used to be post on this forum 2005-2009 when I owned a 1989 cab and then a 1996 coupe. I now own a 1985 targa (and a 2014 991.1 cab), so I'm back. I will post a pic once I get the targa sorted out. I'm hearing differing opinions on Maxilites as I'm getting ready to order them to replace 15s with dry rotted tires. I need to move fast as the car should not be driven much due to the condition of the tires. I assumed many of you with narrow body 3.2's were using Maxilite 17 x 7/9 Fuchs reproductions. My shop just put a set of Euromeisters 17 x 7/9's on narrow body as well. However, I have been told by a Maxilite rep that 7's don't look right on the front of a narrow body and that 17's work better on a widebody. I'm looking at 17's mainly to ensure that I have tire choices in the future. Any comments? Pics? |

![]() This is my 85 Coupe with the 17 Euromeisters, 7s and 8s. 225-45 front and 255-40 rear. The fit is perfect in my opinion. They are indeed heavier than the 15s I put in my attic. The tire performance of modern rubber (Michelin Pilots Sports) is just order of magnitude than the mud and snow rated minivan tires I had to run with 15s. I dive my car on long road trips, and drive in the rain. Autocross gummies will not work in those conditions.

You definitely cannot go wrong with a set of the Maxilite Wheels you can even go with your original 15 sizes, and there are a few sport tire options since that is a common size for vintage BMWs, Miatas, and JDM cars, but 17s will fill the fender wells much better.

Maxilites and Rotas are both kinda funny lookin' (in 17"):
![]() ![]() There is an odd extra lip on them that makes no sense, which is why the maxilite guy is steering you away from them. Plus they're 21 pounds for a front wheel.... I realize you are probably looking for black wheels not an RSR style but I have this really cool set of Euromeisters for sale: Euromeister 17"wheels SC/Carrera fitment custom RSR-ish finish

Thanks. Any pics of Carreras with 17 Maxilites. I didn't know about the odd extra lip.
