Best place to live in USA for 911 owners...

OK, realizing how subjective this can be, where are the best places in the USA to live for 911 owners and why?

Hmmmm...I'd say the San Francisco area. Most 911 guys have the K to deal with the cost of living, and great drives are all around. Is it Skyline Drive I was on at the top of the peninsula where I could see the Pacific and the Bay and the Transamerica building nearly at once? Or how about Rt 1 around the Muir Beach area and what about Mt. Tam? Then there are the tracks...Sears Point, Laguna Seca, and Thunderhill are all within a reasonable tow. Great driving geography, great driving weather and lots of Porsche support fims are an overnight shipment away. I wish I lived there!

I'm pretty happy with Va. Summit Point, VIR, CMP, the Glen, Lime rock, Mid Ohio all within easy drives, no smog testing, and unbelievable back roads that are virtually police free, all with mountain views...

The access to parts, info., cars, and quality service in So cal seems amazing from my outsider point of view. True not alot of great roads right there but lots of race tracks not to far away.

All I can say is NOT Michigan.

Although that first spring drive sure is a nice one! Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder.

No Cal/ So Cal

I can only speak for the places I've lived: Washington State, the No Cal Bay Area and So Cal (L.A. west side).

(Flame retardant clothing on)

Hands down, it's So Cal. Angeles Crest, Mulholland, canyon roads of all kinds in L.A., San Berdoo and Ventura counties... Skyline in No Cal is great, but I've found so many more great roads down here, with so much less traffic... we're short on race tracks, though Willow has a big, fast track plus a short twisty one. Buttonwillow can't resonably be called anything but Central California, but there are minor events in Pomona, the Fontana road course, Palm Springs, (are they still having any events at El Toro?).

Lots to do, great weather, and miles of ocreanfront driving. There are so many Porsches here that in a two mile drive to the store, you might see 6 and not think it unusual.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

After growing up in L.A., I can say it's not like it used to be out here. It seems the population went waaaaaayyyy up after the '84 Olympics. The result are less uncluttered roads, and freeways where if you get over 50 mph, it's on a holiday or late at night/very early morning.

Having said that, L.A. seems to be a mecca of sports cars, and it's true about Porsches that they thrive probably the best of anywhere I can think of. TRE, for instance, is two miles from my house. I can jog there to pick up my car. If I lived by the beach, Otto's (another well-respected Porsche service) is in Venice, which is very accessible.

Race tracks are also fairly close. Willow Springs is about an hour away, and we were real lucky to have once had Riverside Raceway, though that's long gone (replaced by a mall). A deep shame!

Another aspect of L.A. that hasn't been touched on for Porsche owners is the resale/rust issue. I've seen one or two European Porsche dealers who covet CA. cars, particularly from Southern CA. They believe because it's mostly dry out here and not as hot as Vegas or Arizona, that many P-cars lead a rust-free/heat-free pampered life - a fact that can be true. Also, our roads are fairly good unless they've been terribly buckled by earthquakes or heavy trucks.

LA Porsche guys (and anyone else interested):

With this thread in mind, I posted "LA - the best place for a good street race" on the OT board.

Want to read your thoughts...

Definitely Bay Area

I live in the East Bay and take highway 84 from Livermore to Fremont through Niles Canyon every day. Can't get much twistier than that. The best runs are late night, when there's rarely a brake light in sight! The Canyon really focuses the radar waves, and extends the range of the Valentine, too.

Im from Michigan, and spent 2 years in Nashville as well... I moved out here to LA 9 months ago.

It IS great to own a Porsche out here with the weather as it is..... I could have never done it in Mich. though it would have been fun in Nashville with all of the twisty, hilly roads over there...also straight aways.

My problem with LA is that I live down here in Redondo and often have to travel up to the valley on the 405...which is a daily parking lot. On the way home...FORGET IT. 405 is completely backed up from north of Santa Monica Blvd all the way down to RB where I live...so I get off at SM Blvd and take Sepulveda all the way home. Its not fast...but at least Im moving.

Cool

All due respect to Calif P World..

but my big pic attitude goes for Wyoming..

great rolling ups, downs, and sweepers at 70-90mph.. long relaxed stretches at 80-100mph.. with no PD problem/ off tourist season.. beautiful huge country with mountains exotically painted. a warm-up cruse is 100 miles.. please don't get me started in the many many blue eyed real blondes in cowgirl boots/jeans/hats...........Ron

IM sure Califorina is nice but, it cant be the best place to own a porsche, everbody and there mom has a sports car out there. One of the best parts about Porsche ownership is the fact that you have a unique car, this alone disqualifies the west coast.

Look at it this way:

1) Year 'round driving (no snow).
2) Parts are easy to get because "everyone and their mom" has one.
3) Uniqueness is in the eyes of the beholder.
