Lubricant for Reinstalling Injectors

What say you all re: lubricant that should be used on injector o-rings when reinstalling in a 3.2 Carrera? Silicone paste? Molykote? Other? Thanks!

Sachs lubricant works the best

Much appreciated. Appears to be available from our host and so I'll pick up a tube.

Silicone paste, just a light smear.

stlrj 04-21-2021 04:50 PM

WD40 works for me.

theiceman 04-21-2021 05:05 PM

silicone paste. manual just says soak them in gas..

WD40, synthetic grease, KY, olive oil, dish soap ... whatever you have kicking around.

dish soap. always at hand, for sure doesn't attack rubber, vanishes by itself

All of the above plus Dow 111 specifically made as an o-ring lube. You can find small tins of this online for not to much $$.

But isn't silicone supposed to be harmful to sensors? O2 sensor maybe? Ordinary grease may be the safer alternative.

I soaked mine in gas per the manual and they went in with no issues.

I think any of the suggestions above will work just fine.

Got my '84 3.2L injectors back from RC Fuel Injection - the report is pretty interesting (although -- for some reason -- my wife did not find it nearly as interesting as I did -- go figure). It clearly shows that the injectors were sorely in need of service:

My question to the group is, once the injectors and rails are re-installed, is there a start-up protocol that should be followed given all the air in the fuel system? Or do you just crank it until it fires up?

When I put mine in after cleaning I just hit the key. Don't know if that's right or wrong but it worked. Now, I'd probably wait a few seconds since my car has a tune that runs the pump for a few seconds to prime the system. If you really want you could install the injectors and put a jumper on the fuel pump fuse to run the pump for a few seconds and prime.

To your original question, I think I used some Sil glyde when I installed my injectors.

BTW, I don't know why wives don't find that stuff as interesting as we do.

Whew, good to know ... cause that’s what I used on the CIS injectors.
