Shaving RE-71's ??
Well I found a tire shop to shave ( true ) my flat spotted RE-71's.
What depth should shave them to ? Sure beats throwing them away.

I've never heard of a place that would shave a used tire (dulls the blades). What sort of place is this?

In Missoula there a Michlein recapper. Bakke Tire.
I stopped today and asked. They said yes, "they true tires". So explained that I flat spotted these in an A-X. Tires only have 2k. Only the 2 brothers that own the company. Do the trueing. We'll see what I come out with.

R-compound DOT legal tires are usually shaved to 3-4/32nds. Any more than that and youll be pushing your wear limits to one or two track sessions...

Thanks, Chris. I think I'll ask for 5-6/32nds. I think he said they could shave them to 6/32ths.

Cary, why not measure the remaining tread at the flat spots and cut to that level? Any less cutting and you still have a flat spot. Any more cutting would be excessive.

Picked them up. $60 all four, plus balanced.
But bad news. One of my beautiful Fuchs has a wowy in it. One of the venues we use for AX has a pretty has pretty big bump in it. Transistion from asphalt to concrete. Maybe I wacked it too hard. But I'm thinking when we mounted the new tires, one of them had quite a bit more weight on it. But I can have them ( new tires ) trued each time to compenstate for the wheel. They also do on car balancing. To balance the tire to the rotors.
