Oil Temperature Gauge Question

I replaced my oil temperature gauge in my 69T to a combo gauge. The temperature portion reads from 120-300. I connected the wires to the temperature gauge from the original sending unit that was in the car. When you turn on the ignition the gauge will go to the max and never come down. In my research I cannot find any references to different sending units for the temp sender. The sending unit did work with the original gauge.

I noticed on both of the gauges there is a threaded shaft that has a screw slot cut into it and a locking collar at the base. I am wondering if this is used to adjust the gauge.

Here are my questions:

1. Are the temperature sending units the same on all cars? (The combo gauge looks to be from a mid 70's car)

2. Is the screw at the back of the gauge for adjustment? (I can post a picture of this tonight if that helps.)

Anyone experience the same problem? I have seen many threads on this issue but I have not seen a resolution posted as of yet.

Thanks

I believe the temp sending unit is different for the numeric gauges. No idea about the screw on the back of the gauge itself. I'm sure someone will chime in here soon.

This is where I get a little confused... When I look on Pelican the part number for the sending unit on the "numbered" gauge is A-641-632-00 and that is the same number listed for the 1969 car. I do not see a listing for the temp gauge without numbers, so I assumed they are the same. It seems like that is not the case.

It sounds like if I order part number A-641-632-00 that my gauge will work. Does this make sense?

Thanks for all the help it looks like I am getting closer to knowiing the oil temp.
