Fred: Yes stuff is close to high voltage, but not too close. The epoxy is rated for 450v/mil thickness and I am allowing 150 mils clearance minimum.
No, those are not fiber optic. I made the equivalent of 60kv spark plug wires with an OD of just 1/8". These are the output wires. And they are not shielded. |

We tune the car so there is no knock in typical operating conditions with race fuel. But, we use the knock sensors in case there is bad/incorrect fuel or the heads get too hot or some other event (e.g., ignitor failure, broken coil wire, etc.)occurs that causes knock. We can detect the knock and increase fuel, back off timing, or both so there is no more knock. If we get x amount of knock events, we display a warning on the dash. Heck, we even put the engine in a limp mode if things are really bad. It's easy to look at the ECU logs to see if we are getting any knock events under nominal conditions. If we did, we would retune the car so we did not. So far, we aren't getting knock events under nominal conditions. so we are comfortable with our tune.

One sensor per bank is all the Motec M130 system needs assuming you are using a crank position sensor (60-2 in my case) and a cam position sensor.

Still, I'm completely confused. What is the purpose of the extra HT wires? Output to what? What else could possibly need high voltage other than the spark plugs. There are easier and lower voltage methods to analyse the spark quality if that is what the purpose is. It looks awfully delicate to me for something meant to go on a race car (or any car really). Maybe I want to know too much and out of ignorance asking dumb questions. I'm not a racer. Fred

I believe the MR2 forum as I was big into Alltracs which shared the 3SGTE engine...
