Porsche Crest DIY 911R Tailights - Part 1

Hello there,

Decided I definitely want 911R taillights for my 3.2 Carrera.
Went browsing for 911R taillights housings and lens ... well, quite a hefty bill.
So I went the DIY way.

First thing first - the lights - I bought :
2 HELLA 2SA 001 259-751 for the Running/Stop lights (Red)
2 HELLA 2BE 001 259-061 for the Signal/Backup lights (Amber/White)

The amber/white lights came with 2 bulb sockets - enough for the signal and backup lights.

Problem was the red lights came with only one bulb socket and I do need 2 - one for the running light and one for the stop light.

I then disassembled my car taillight and found out that stop and backup functions were assumed by a single dual filament bulb (12V P21/5W).

Here is the problem : how do I fit this bulb to accommodate my 911R red light?

Went online and bought a socket for the P21/5W bulb

Now I need to design a part that would fit my new socket and the red lens. Hopefully I have this Prusa 3D printer to do this. All it takes is a couple of hours on Sketchup - multiply that by at least 2...

The new part printed in PETG filament :

Now all together - Et voilà! :

Part 2 is going to be a full design of the 911R taillight housing with Sketchup to be 3D printed - in a couple of month (multiply that by at least 2...)

light housing

Nice work. Did you ever save the printing program for this housing. This design is superior to all others I have seen. Did you make spares in case this breaks?

Hi

Do the 911R style rear lights fit in place of the original wrap-around lens or does the whole rear light assembly/housing need to be removed?

Thanks

It never ceases to amaze me the resources we have today that we didn't have 10 years ago. Great job.

Definitely want to get a set from you or maybe it’s time I got a 3D printer.

Any thoughts on a design for a two bulb base for a red amber or clear amber lens?

You need a dedicated housing to fit the 911R rear lights - that's gonna be Part 2 of the project

The red/amber or clear/amber lights come with a two bulbs base - the kind of bulb used for the interior light - should be enough for backup and signal

Did you make any progress on the lights.

How will you mount them ? Just buy the fiberglass insert and mount the 2 Hella lights on it ?

Cheers

Following this. Can you share your file for the base? I have a CAD file shared here at Shift Fork Jig for 915s FREE It's on google drive.

Thanks for your effort. Looking forward to your part 2.
