Rear light assy wiring bundle 911SC

Rear light wire bundle / 1980 911SC

I want to remove the wiring harness for the pax side rear light assembly.

Any insight as to the technique / process to elegantly accomplish the task [where you don’t bugger up the part].. Push from inside engine compartment?

If you want to get it out of the light assembly, you will need to remove the light assembly from the car then remove the plate off the light assembly and disconnect the associated wither from inside the light assembly. with the wires disconnected you can then remove the grommet and wires from the plate.

To get the 6 pin connector out of the body.
Push the outer edge of the 6 pin female connector towards the center of the connector and out towards the light fixture.
I use a wide, dull flat blade screwdriver.
Once you get some started the rest will follow.

Dennis:

Got it... pushed the outermost portion of the gasket towards the center- while also pushing the center of the plug through the hole - came out very cleanly..

Good.
The hard part is getting it back in...
Dish soap with a little water is your friend.

Reinstallation is a PITA.

Harpo: I think that "Porsche Law of the Universe" goes without saying...

Lube the sucker up - have a cold one handy.... some good tunes blasting... "clear the mechanism".... and get on with it.... // multitude of various prise tools handy...

It's the cost of our passion... - I'll deal with it....

Update after installing a new dash harness in my car today with 6 of the female connectors.
The soapy water will work eventually, but I decided to use some Dow Corning 111 lube, and they popped right in easy peasy with a firm straight push.
