Cab Latching motor fix
I looked through the archive and know what i need to do, but I am afraid I can't figure out how to get to the part I need. How do you get the Cab header panel off so that you can get to the motors and switches on the locking mechanisims?
The motors and switches are behind here... ![]() And this is the header panel I want to take off to get to them from the other side.... ![]() It has these little buttons that look like screw covers.....but there was more resistance than I expected, and I was afraid it may be a strange fastner that I am doing wrong. ![]() What is holding this panel on? thanks in advance, Ed '92 C2 Cab |

The panel will come off around the handle recesses. The don't need to be removed. The panel tucks in underneath them. The panel is held on by a couple of screws and a bunch of pop-in plastic clips just like a door panel.
Slide a wide, flat tool under the panel right next to each one and gently pry them out one at a time so as to avoid damaging the panel.

That's it Tyson, thanks....I was afraid it would be that easy..... but I didn't want to screw up a good part to get to the bad part.

What problem are you fixing? Curious.
I have an ongoing love/hate affair with my cab roof. Intermittently wont lock on one side. 1 year and many fruitless searches to nail the problem down ![]()

Expathk,
the driver side latching mechanism doesn't stop turning when the top engages the header. Once the top closes all the way i release the switch or the latch motor on the drivers side will keep running. And my "top not closed" dash light is on whenever the top is closed. I am pretty sure it is just a failed switch that is not recognizing the contact with the header. Going to replace that switch. I had the same problem with mine turned out that the rotor arm inside had sheared and I had to replace the whole unit - hope yours is OK.
Expathk - mine does the same now and again but I have noticed that it often does it when the car is not exactly on the level as the roof can be slightly offline one side and the contact switch doesn't quite depress when it contacts the front. I love cabriolets but they are a pain in the ....... sometimes Mark |

Mark,
I tend to agree with you. Most times it happens to me the car is parked on the side of the road either on a kerb or on a sloping road. What bugs me if this is the case is why it takes ages before I can get the roof to lock down again properly. - Yes I have been known to drive around with one side not locked down, or park and raise the top but have one side not locked. I've also gotten in the habit of carrying a screw driver in the car and if need be, undoing the the head liner and switching the wires over just to get the other side to lock down - puts lots of stress on the whole mechanism doing that though! ![]() ![]() And again I agree with you Mark - I love my cab (open air driving rocks!) but sometimes ![]()
