Tire sizes for a sc wide body

Hi everyone I am going from 18s to 17s I know you may think I’m crazy but it rides horrible I am putting 17x11 and 17x9 wheels on I’m gonna use 315/35/17 on rear and tentatively 255/40/17 on the front I am concerned about city driving and that big of a tire on the front of my sc wide body with no power steering. What do you think pictures a plus. Kevin

Still too much tire imo. Too much unsprung weight will result in noisy and harsh ride. Hard parking too.
Years ago I had a set of 964 17’ on my ‘86 which worked really well both on lousy Toronto streets and highway. Maybe add spacers to fill out the fenders.
M2CW
Good luck.

That's the combo I used on my widebody SC for over a decade. Yes they feel a bit heavy due to the sub 200WHP 3.0L SC engine but not that big of a deal. The car hit redline top end (145mph) all the time (I lived rural) and handled very well with all that grip. I kept that combo when the turbo engine was installed and have that combo on my 930 now. Had 255/345-15 on a widebody '73 back in the day. None had power steering, to me it's not a problem at all and worth it for the look.

We use the rear size 315 but 245 on the front -- 245 Hoosiers run a little wide . . .
I'm not sure what you have -"SC Widebody" ?
We have Turbo flares on 1978 SC body race car . . .
Photos added that may help - - wheel offset and spacers are pretty much trial and error . . .
RarlyL8 has some great photos of his car if you do a search . . .

We do have some tire rubbing - for the street you might consider a size smaller both front and rear . . .

Roy T

Kevin,

There's a guy selling a nice set of 17 inch Fikse FM10's off a wide body 911 for a great price on the UCR PCA region classifieds. They come with near new tires on 9 and 11 inch wheels.

Might be worth a look ...

Jeeze, Kevin, life is all about looks and that car is beautiful. If I was to make any changes I'd lose the wing/whale tail thing. Love the color too.

The spacers have got to go. I thought about taking the spoiler off

Here's a pic of my SC widebody with 9&11.5x17 255/315 combo. Typical Euro height.
If deleting spacers the back spacing would be 5.5" front and rear. I had 18's on this car as well as 15's at one time. The 15's felt the most heavy and the 18's felt the most light. I believe this was due to the sidewall height / aspect ratio. 17's looked the best IMO.
