break in old engine?
Well since my car's been on the road she's been quite smokey. Since I had all that water in the cylinders I'm not so sure the rings are seated correctly anymore. What would be the best way to try and reseat them?
And yes I'm starting to save for a rebuild.

I would just drive it. How does it sound? How many miles do you think you have covered since start-up? How much smoke are we talking about, puff-puff, or James Bond?
Hals car smoked some before we tuned up the injection. I wouldnt have expected that to have been a contributor, but it was VERY rich. If you want, maybe we can check it out this weekend. Paul

Maybe another oil change or two, to get it all out of the system then just drive and enjoy

I believe red line to blow the gunk out. And yes, that is the technical terminology.

Blue smoke would be oil. Black would be a rich mixture. Drive it. Do a compression and leakdown test

it's definitly blue smoke. and it's decent from what I hear. Mostly on acceleration and during startup. it's not puff puff but it's not quite james bond either.

If there aren't any scary noises, i would go with a combination of what Bill and Nostatic said. Run it hard and change the oil once or twice more and see what happens.
What oil are you using, and what procedure did you use when you put oil in after draining the old oil? Did you put in 6 quarts, start it up then add the rest while running? Paul

I am running a 68 engine in my 66 and it sat for about 20 years in a field of high grass, the tub is about rusted in Half, so it took the motor and put marvel mistery oil in it and turned it over stuck it in my car and runs SWEET!! Just changed the oil twice, It does have a few oil leaks to work on but other wise Great running engine and I do run it Hard, it runs 4000 rpm on the freeway at 70 mph
