Mike,

Your SC's body was zinc dipped. If you're headed all the way down to the metal, use a process that leaves the zinc?

Mike --
Slightly off topic, but what airhead BMWs did you own? I had a '72 R75/5 and a '75 R90/6. I had the /5 for decades and the /6 for about 10 years (i never should have sold the /6, what a great machine!).

Man, I love this color. I'd just R&R where necessary. Great find!

Taillight assembly removal

Hey gang, Im back with my SC in hand. I've begun the teardown.

Question - how do I remove the taillight assembly housing wiring plug? I don't want to break any wires. I am going to remove the entire assembly for paint and to refurbish the assemblies.

Thanks.. MMhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1628368374.jpg

When you own the car, you can do whatever you want to it. It is yours, don't worry about what criticism you may get from others....

Aside from a very few special 911s, these were mass produced and frankly once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. What makes the Porsche culture so much better than most other vintage car scenes is the way owners chop, tweak hot rod and outlaw their cars to be extensions of themselves. That so much more interesting than another clean factory example 911.

Go for it and share!!

This car has been sitting for years. Only used as a Hollywood prop car. It also served as a lovely squirrel hotel. It needs alot of work, needless to say.

From inside the car with the male 6 pin plug removed, use a dull flat blade screwdriver to push the edge of the rubber lip in towards the middle and angle it out the back.
Once you get a little pushed past the sheet metal it will go easier.
Use Dow 111 to lubricate the rubber when you go to install them back in.

Btw. Another topic - I tried to remove a small dent on the fender using the Eastwood paintless kit. Didn't work and only managed to pull the paint off. Fortunately I'm repainting but heads up if you use this on stock paint. Might damage the paint.

Just make sure you get the right eBay sticker package.

Rear bumper and tail removed . Can I bondo the old bolt holes? Also does a standard SC grille fit the decklid? Or better to find a used non-spoiler decklid?

Thx.

Don't know about doing an "Outlaw" build, but you certainly can make a scoundrel !

Mike8819 04-14-2022 11:24 AM

I posted this a while back. I was planning on starting my outlaw (scoundrel) project and hit a few snags. Thought I needed to sell the car but fortunately I hung on...

I might as well document as much as I can. I will try to post questions and pictures. Thank you so much in advance. I have another thread where I can color-shift your Porsche paint (as a thank you). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1098830-give-back-forum.html

Today's Help - Dansk Fuel Tank

Just received mine. Came with directions. I was unsure what they meant by 'removing the spray-in liner", Does that occur when I do swirl and rinse with carb cleaner? Just want to make sure I do it right. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649964454.JPG

Updates and pictures

This car has a fun history. Its past life was as a Hollywood prop car. Video of the car in Goliath (with Billy Bob Thorton) being driven by David Sedaris...https://youtu.be/DFpSaZtYPio

The car baked in the CA sun. Needs alot of work. I brought it back to Mi (with the help of @techweenie). The motor and trans are being done now. Keeping it stock.

Ive stripped the car and am working my way through everything.

Ive been focused on engine and trunk area. Full of nuts, dirt and whatever else the squirrels brought home. I pulled the light housings and cleaned, repainted.

I stripped the interior and will add square weave carpet. Seats are being reupholstered.

Went with VTO classic wheels and Pzero tires.

Lots to do and I'll have questions. I am a noob, after all.SmileWavy

Lastly, if you need parts, see my other thread. I'll also have the fuel tank available soon. Seems in decent shape. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/1105616-sc-parts-sale-mostly-exterior-2.html
