G50 input shaft seal issue 😔

Hey everyone, I dropped my motor and trans for the first time. Been plugging away nice so far..until this seal. Found the thread with the bearing puller tool and 1 inch pipe. I did this, threaded it in plenty far..but the center of the seal came out leaving the out part of the seal still stuck inside. I’m bummed I thought that trick would work great.

Any thoughts on how to get this out would be great. I’ve tried a pick, even a small pry bar to try and get it out.

Google search seal remover tool. Lond handle and a long and short hook.

And after replacing the seal, clean that bell housing out.

That's one dirty closeup pic. A warning label would've been nice !

Hahahah oh trust me I will! The entire trans looked like that yesterday. I cleaned everything good except for the bell housing. I had a time trying to remove the clutch arm shaft. Finally got it this morning. My input shaft seal and flywheel seal were both leaning leaking 😃. Clutch assembly is all in great shape but disk is contaminated with oil. Two rally’s coming up..no time to waste!

Look up the seal on the 964 list
A threaded pipe to catch the seal and a coupling to pull against does wonders…

Take the diff out ( no big deal) Tap it out from the other side

I tried the threaded pipe. Someone put too much loctite around the seal so when I pulled it out with the puller tool is pulled the center of the seal only. I took the trans to a friends trans shop and he removed it for me. The seal puller tool wouldn’t fit in the space because of the shaft. Thanks for the help guys!

Why would anyone use Locktite in this application ? For what's it's worth, I made my own extractor tool for the 915 shift seal off a threaded pipe, as inspired by a post Jim Williams wrote.
