trans cooler

I am building a second gear box for the track. I would like to install a cooler/spraybar system. Would like to see what some of you guys have done and with good success. It may come down to making everything. Other than the RSR set up and the Euro set up off of the side cover, I don't think there is another ready make system out there. Thanks, Bob

I race a car with a 3.6L that has over 400 HP and over 320 ft-lbs of torque going into a 915. It does not have an cooler setup or spay bar setup and it never shows signs of heat related damage or unexpected wear.

You don't need a cooler unless you are racing it hard for more than 45 minutes a time. The cooler setup came along for race cars from Porsche because of the longer races. I run Swepco 210 in my 915. It works extremely well.

I agree w/ scott, for 30 -45min runs a cooler isn't a really high priority item

Some of us do run for an hour or more at a time though

Here's some data, ~400 hp 964, 90+F ambient, at WGI

1500s is 25min that's' when the regulated cooler on this trans kicks in

We use CMS - 915 race built - now with their spray bar inside - we use the CMS bottom cover to route the fluid thru a cooler in the rear driver side seat bottom with a Tilton pump - temp gauge in dash- driver operated power switch -

At the CMS shop - broke a Ring gear tooth first time - next was 4th gear failure -
CMS external spray bar attachment with machined 5th gear cover - bottom cover also CMS machined part - - GT limited slip is also great - this 915 has been racing for over 15 years . . .

Spray bar directed onto R/P - same with gears inside fluid directed onto gears

Rear seat Cooler and outside air hose to NACA Duct in rear quarter window

CMS Bottom cover plate - has temp sensor in cover

Pump and cooler (before spray bar was installed routed to fill hole)

CMS has done great work for us - not inexpensive - "what part of Porsche Racing did you think would be cheep? " The 3.8L engine is another story but has held up very well . . .

Hope this helps someone out there in Pelican land . . .

Regards,
Roy T

I modified a side cover oil pump to include a Wevo spray bar and manifold.

And another that I ran on our race car for 20 years, that I built with a 356 Carrera oil thermostat and cooler that is mounted by the rear seat area with naca ducts in the 1/4 windows.

Did the Euro Transaxle cooler for my 77 widebody project: (Last two photos) and I'm including an image dump from my reference folder. Some US Texas delivery cars got one I've heard.

I doubt if I will ever do anything more than sprint races with this car, so it seems from a couple of responders that no pump should be required for this effort and I have had no issues to date. I do have the factory side cooler and despite the high odds of it not be necessary, I do like the idea of the add on spray bar. Thanks all for the great info. Bob
