Engine Fastener Finish
Howdy!
What was the factory finish of engine fasteners and steel bits the first decade or so of the 911 engine? Much of the coachwork fasteners seems to be plated with gold-colored zinc, same on the powertrain? Thanks! gp |

Year model would help but zinc was the normal 70’s - 80’s

Cad was common on many vehicles through the 60's. But there was a point with every manufacturer, including Porsche where the decision was made to abandon cad plating, usually in favor of zinc.
It may be more of a question for the concourse guys...I suspect a hefty points deduction for incorrectly plated fasteners! |

Yellow cadmium back in the day.
I'd do yellow zinc and it will be close enough.

Yellow CAD if possible. It lasts longer than zinc.
Aircraft specs typically spec CAD-plated steel fasteners. Look or ask for a source near a local airport. Sherwood |

They were yellow cad. Yellow zinc is close, but not correct. That said, finding a place to do proper cad plating is getting harder as it not exactly environmentally friendly... I am pretty sure you can't buy new true cad plated hardware.
We have started saving Verbus and Kmax fasteners so we can bead blast, tumble/wire wheel and get actual cad plating done for those "special" cars and restorations....
