Longhood SWB steering column variations.....
Hey Pelicans I need some help:
I am piecing together an ex-911 race car which we acquired from Don Ahern a few years ago. I believe this car to be a late 67 build. From what I understand so far; late 67/ early 68 is when Porsche went from the early (cast aluminum steering column shells w/steel support tube) to the later (plastic clam shells) type steering column w/no support tube.....but I am trying to figure out if there might have been an in between variation? Does my car simply require a 69-73 steering setup or something else? The car came with these parts which to my understanding are 901/early: The car does not have holes/provisions for the steel "support tube" as you can see here: |

all I know is 2 things:
1. 68 MY is a real oddball 2. later long hoods differ from 1974-up you might try Early911S or Rennlist |

What thor66 said about 68MY for sure.
Almost every other 1968 I've compared to mine has differences. On top of which, I think the steering column bits differed based on the country it was sold into and options like steering column lock. When I was searching through PP forums for info on the ignition switch, I saw lots of different configurations. |
