BAT industries Mocal oil cooler

Hello

Just installed one of these BAT industries 19 row 'B' kits in the front fender and it works great. Question is does anyone have any ideas for a stone guard that would fit? Hoping to buy something vs fab something up if possible

-J

I never really found a pre-made stone guard for mine. I fabbed one with a couple layers of hardware cloth.

I have has good results from my Mocal cooler. I had to make a shroud from aluminum sheet as I could not find anything pre made.

Got a fender liner from the junk ward, cut it up and made a couple of brackets.
Cheers,

johan, your approach seems to detract from the cooling as it precludes air flow? If you driled a series of small holes into the liner wouldnt that improve cooling?

I'd like to fab something better than what I currently have, which is heavy duty wire mesh and some aluminum flat stock.

When I did mine I was looking for something temporary and found that the metal “EZ gutter guard” I had recently installed at my house fit perfectly - right width and slightly concave. Though only meant to be temp it’s been on for 4 years now- going strong.

This is my factory stone guard. As you can see there is a rubber and foam seal for the fender to force all the air to go through the cooler, and not around it. That is very important for the cooling.

My car is a 1985 and it of course had the Carrera cooler, but no fan. My hoses were both weeping, so I bought new hoses, a new seal, and removed everything, added a fan, and a power source, and reassembled. Getting the hoses back on straight and not cross threaded is the trick part. And then getting the ends tight enough to not leak is the strength challenge.

Pretty much what's on mine, with some shrouding to help guide the air through the cooler and not around.

With track use, it gets absolutely hammered.

I have a push Mocal fan in front and about 4” of clear space between the cooler and the stone guard. Both the cooler and fan are angled slightly downward so the air is deflected downward by the guard. It provides plenty cooling in stop and go traffic in hot weather. The solid guard keeps all the road crap from caking on to the cooler.
