Pulsing lights/rebuilt alternator
I recently had my alternator and starter rebuilt (86 Carrera) by a great shop . After the rebuild, I have noticed that all my lights will surge when the engine exceeds 1500 rpm’s. The surge is really a fast pulse. At idle, the pulse goes away. I checked and cleaned all the grounds to no avail. When I took the car by the shop, the owner suggested that it was either the voltage regulator of some problems with the windings. He is going to take care of whatever the problem is but I am curious as to what it may be. Any ideas? By the way, the shop is Vanetta’s Auto Electric in Boulder, CO. Owned and operated by a really nice guy that takes time to help his customers. He has helped me with many other projects and refused to charge me. Small business owner that cares.
Thanks, Ben |

maybe they reused the old regulator, which was the cause of pulsating lights, and the typical carrera overcharging problem.

I have the opposite type of situation with a 72 911T, I notice a pulse at idle that goes away above 1400-1500 RPM... regulator also?? or is it just a feature?
