Has anyone MODIFIED stock decklid hinges.......

To perform like these Rennline Hinges?

Thought I would ask our incredible brain-trust for opinions !

Is modifying stock hinges possible to offer the same adjustments like these Rennline hinges ?

Seems like it would be at least POSSIBLE to drill out the holes enough to make adjustments LIKE the Rennline ones.........

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A98dHiS0SF8

I'm just curious.......

(I've needed to adjust my deck-lid from side to side and height, the shims do not allow for the type of adjustment I need on my deck-lid. This video makes it look SOOO simple and I wonder if drilling out stock hinge holes would work pretty similarly or as easy is those Rennline hinges)

Thoughts ?

Not to steal their idea but it does look really simple if you wanted to fab some up.

I have the Rennline mounts. They are nice and do offer much more adjustability but it is in no way a cake walk. Still fussy and a dark art.

danobee..... ya thats what i was thinking...... open up the existing holes in the original hinges and bam.... more adjustment options..... the video makes it looks so easy/simple.

oldspool........... "dark art" good description..... i've already tried the shim process and got nowhere..... i need more adjustment options...... BUT i cant see myself throwing down 250 or 300 bucks for hinges......... ya ya i know cheap SOB... i agree.

cant be THAT hard can it?

hummmmm........

Since there is no adjustment on the body, wouldnt modifying the stock hinges with some flat plate be the easiest? Put slots in the flat plate and mount them to aluminum "L" angle on the deck lid. I think it would be the simplest solution in my opinion.

AlKidd...... thats exactly what i was thinking/hoping....... cant be THAT complicated can it?

Any pictures or drawings for your idea? crayon and napkin is perfectly fine, I just wanted to get an idea from you is all.......

I think this weekend I'm going to start poking around and seeing if I can swing it. See what I would need to do to get the decklid lined up well.... the way its sitting has been bugging me for a while now......

Ill see if I can get my hands on a spare hinge. Some laser cut aluminum plate that fits into the existing arm should work. Even a jigsaw could rough one out.

ya cool...... a jigsaw is gonna have to be the tool..... i dont have the fancy stuff.... dont really care about it being a show piece.... functionality is more important to me....... doesnt need to be or look pretty for me...... its gonna be hidden and NOT a focus piece once the decklid is opened... my engine is the jewel of the compartment not the hinge!

I'd appreciate a VISUAL on your idea........

From the rennline website....are these $275. ea? and we need 2?
I guess I will start planning to make a set also. Probably have to order aluminum online and as usual with a jig saw and a drill one could probably make this work.
It would be nice to have a spare hinge or 2 for a pattern. Does anyone have a set of old hinges laying around?

Been looking for a solution for my poorly molded DP tail.
