ITB Manifold

Hi All,

I’m a decent wrench, but since I have ZERO idea what I’m doing with engine mods and tuning, I’ll spend this next year doing an MS3X EFI and Coil on Plug conversion on my W124 with an M103 engine. Then I plan on taking what I learn there, and doing the same for my 3.2 Carrera (along with a top end refresh and cams). I’ll spend the next year gathering or building the parts I need.

QQ - I’ve looked through some old DIY threads on ITBs, and I see several options for building an ITB setup. I have the throttle bodies from the old 955 Speed Triple, 97-2000 model, which I believe are around 41mm.

The threads I see for the builds recommend either retrofitting the ITBs to Weber or PMO manifolds, or making your own. I can MIG reasonably well, but before I drop a grand on a TIG machine - I don’t see where I can buy the Weber or PMO manifolds as a stand alone item. There are some used pieces on eBay, but they don’t seem to show a particular size? What am I looking for? Do they need to match the 41mm size on my ITBs?

Those Weber or PMO manifolds exist in a few different sizes, short and long runners and quite a few different diameters. There is a really good chance you will need to match those inner diameters. They are all tapered, say 40+ top dia and say 36 bottom. So basically you will need to match both ends.
p.s. about 4 years ago I`ve done my own little ITB project based on Triumph TB`s and that was not that easy but since then we have ITB`s from RHD which products are very reasonable in price and Al Kosmal sells them in the US

There's a company called Danst Engineering in the UK that sells 911 manifolds for use in making custom EFI setups. Just looked, and they have one for the Triumph TBs.

Lol. Bought a non-running W124 for 800 bucks a few months ago. Started by ripping out the entire subframe and redoing every piece of rubber and suspension, got it running again. I polished the paint and fixed a few cosmetic things to update it, and now it’s my daily driver. I wanted something that was fun and could replace my land cruiser. The cruiser is a great car, but it gets 12 miles per gallon and costs around 100 bucks to fill the tank so…

Once I Megasquirt the thing and fix the ignition and injection, I plan on sticking a mid sized turbo on it to get something to the tune of 350 to 400 hp.

You can follow that build thread here.

just browsed through your W124 project - lots of work there. Star Motors in Tualatin may have some guidance on alignment.

Just thought I’d update the thread. Got my manifolds from Danst Engineering today, it’s going to be a while before I get them mounted and set up, but they definitely pass the sniff test. Overall pretty happy with the price and the workmanship.
