Door locks

1988 Carrera. I bought a battery disconnect as a theft deterrent. My door key won't unlock the doors if the battery is disconnected. Any thoughts ? Brian

Interesting. I've never tried it. The result would be if the battery goes dead you can't open the frunk to get to the battery. Now I'm afraid to try it.

On my 1988, I did not have any issue unlocking the driver's side door using the key when the battery was dead or disconnected. You may have another issue.

I used to have an 88 Targa and at one point the door locks broke. I seem to remember there was a microswitch that triggered the lock/unlock and a lever at the back of the lock that would mechanically unlock the car. It may only mechanically lock, but I do remember is only worked mechanically one way whereas the microswitch could trigger both. Could it be the lever is missing on your car?

If the battery is dead, try unlocking the passenger door.

I think I can roll down a window and try it. Let me know if you want me to try on my 89.

To roll down the window don’t you have to open the door to get to the window switch. With a dead battery, the window will not roll down.

My 85 will unlock the door with the battery disconnected.
