Wallyworld in Tucson has the 5qt containers for $18.88 each. I picked up 3 of the 15-50 yesterday.

Went to K-mart first to check their prices ($4.99/qt) and noticed the Castrol 5-50 in 4qt containers was $17.42. Definitely no bargain with the castrol or K-mart for that matter.

Attention all you pre 911 owners. The recommended oil is
Kendall GT-1 high perf 20w50. 12 quarts $25.32 plus tax.
Thats $2.11 a quart.Better heat transfer, stops leaks, and
Syntetics have no proven advantage as far as anti wear, And
who really drive a 911 in sub zero temps.Acids build up in any
oil and For the same money as Mobil-1 users I can change mine
twice.

Kepperly:

1.) Acids don't build up in Mobil 1 synthetic....look at published test data.
2.) High temps around top of cylinder and top-most ring/land area are best protected by Syn oils. Mineral oils break down near 500 degF, mobil 1 does not.
3.) Other than that...mineral oils are fine/adequate, certainly improved over the years...and there are many cars with many miles on them that show this to be true.

But don't say " better heat transfer.....acid build up..etc" ...without substantiated back up. Let's see it.

I hate Wal-Mart/Home Depot/Lowes/Target.

They drive out small enterprise. It used to be you had 10 small business people making a nice living in a community and supporting it. They might each be worth a million or two a piece and had a big stake in the community and making it succeed. They bank at a local bank - which supports a teller's job. They buy a new car every year from the local dealer - which pays for a salesman and a mechanic. They build a new house which supports a contractor and carpenter, etc.

Now you have the five Walton children worth $30 billion each and throwing peanuts back into a community and the economy as a whole.

That being said, people have a right to shop where they want - and they choose to go there for some reason that escapes me.

I always try to by local even if it costs more. I figure I am supporting my community, supporting choice and a better selection, and paying for specialized knowledge. Sure you can buy Mobil 1 at Wal-mart - but can you 20-50 racing oil there - and do they stock a filters that only fit 1 or 2 cars in town because they know you are a good customer and may need it? I don't think so.

Buy local and pay to support your community.

Will, how would Mobil-1 be any differant in an internal combustion
engine. The process of combustion creates acids. Hydrocarbons
burned produce waste gasses that contain acids. The only way to
rid your motor of these acids (especially in an infrequently driven Porsche ) is to change the oil more often. Why not a more affordable choice of a premium mineral oil that has been recommended by the likes of Bruce Anderson, especially when
you could service it more often at 1/2 the price of Mobil-1.

Bruce Anderson? I'm running mobil one, 15-50. Just picked some up at the Local Wal Mart for $18.88 per 5 quart jug. Hmmm, not as great a bargain as it used to be. I think Schuck's (related to Kragen) has it on sale from time to time for $3.99 per quart. I may go that route next in order to avoid the hassles of Wal-Mart.

Bruce Andersen can like and recommend any oil he likes. I'll stick with Mobil 1 and get it at the best price possible.
